  • COMMODORE 64 "Silver Label"

    commodoreLabel and Design :
This model is known as "Silver Label" due to the silver label on the case. This was one of the very first models produced in 1982.

    Motherboard :
The first motherboards used in the Silver Labels are identified as "Assy 326298".

    Chipset :
Used the first available chipsets, including the 6581 SID (Sound Interface Device) and 6567/6569 VIC-II (Video Interface Chip) chips. These chips were often subject to revisions and bugfixes in early releases.

    Components :
The components used in these early motherboards were often early releases, which had stability and durability issues. Subsequent revisions would improve these aspects.

    Connectors :
Early models had slightly different connectors and layouts than later versions, such as expansion and video ports.

    COMMODORE 64 "Rainbow Label"

    commodoreLabel and Design :
The "Rainbow Label" gets its name from the rainbow-colored logo that replaces the silver label. This design began to be used in late 1982 and became more common in 1983.

    Motherboard :
Motherboards of this model are commonly identified as "Assy 250407". This revision saw significant improvements in stability and reliability.

    Chipset :
Even though it used the same chip types (SID 6581 and VIC-II 6567/6569), the revisions were more advanced and stable than the versions used in the Silver Labels.

    Components :
Significant improvements in component quality and motherboard layout for greater reliability and fewer overheating issues.

    Connectors :
Ports and connectors have been slightly repositioned and improved to facilitate expansion and use of peripherals.
